Skiing & boarding
Chamonix is the home of mountain and winter sports. It hosted the first-ever Winter Olympics and occupies a special place in many a skier or boarder's heart. It boasts some of the best on- and off-piste terrain in the world, overlooked by Europe's most spectacular mountains, the Mont Blanc massif.
Want the inside track on the best places to ski?'Insider guides' - our inside knowledge on the best skiing and boarding in the region...
Where can I show off those sexy turns?
As you'll see by clicking the piste map above, there are several distinct ski areas in the valley - with something for everyone. Brévent and Flégère offer two linked zones, accessible via the Flégère cable car just 100m from Chalet Petit Tinqueur's front door.
Le Tour is at the upper end of the valley, basking in the sun. The Grands Montets hill above Argentière is perhaps Chamonix's most famous skiing mountain - offering a phenomenal amount of easily accessible off-piste terrain.
Lastly, the Aiguille du Midi provides access to the world's most famous off-piste run, the Vallée Blanche, while Les Houches offers comfortable tree skiing lower down the valley.
We don't just leave you alone to get on with it. If you like, we'll arrange your equipment hire, minibus you around the valley, take you out on the mountain and show you the best spots to practise those silky skills... We can also organise ski school, private lessons and mountain guides for you.
Ski France, Italy and Switzerland in one trip
Chamonix is an ideal base for a skiing trip that includes visits to nearby resorts in France, Italy and Switzerland.
Courmayeur (Italy) and St Gervais/Mégève/Les Contamines (France) are just 30 mins from the chalet (and included on some Chamonix lift passes). Verbier (Switzerland), Morzine/Avoriaz and Flaine (both France) are only 1 hr away. You can even get to Cervinia/Zermatt (Italy/Switzerland) and Monte Rosa (Italy) in about 2 hrs. Let us know in advance and we’ll sort out the transport arrangements for you.
Kids
Children are always welcome at Chalet PT - winter or summer. We do everything we can to ensure your kids are happy (we more or less share the same mental age anyway...) After all, that's what will make or break your own time away on holiday.
Crèche facilities are available for kids age 3 and above at the excellent Panda Club - a cross between crèche and ski school, with plenty of English-speaking kids and carers on hand. You can leave the kids in their care for as long as you like. As an indication, 5 full days with skiing lessons and lunch costs about £200. Booking in advance is advised for peak season.
Older children can join the regular Ski School group or private lessons, offered on a hourly, half-day or full-day basis. Ski School is not only for improving their skiing: it's also a great way to meet other kids, too.
For kids of all ages (including infants), we have a list of Tourist Office-approved and regulated nannies and babysitters. Let us know what you're after and we'll arrange it directly with them.
